Full Description
April 2016. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
Possible evidence of Second World War military activity, perhaps related to training, is visible as earthworks and areas of disturbed ground on 1940s aerial photographs (S1)-(S3). The site is located a short distance to the south of a more extensive training area on Sutton Common (SUT 250). Part of the activity recorded here, however, could relate to quarrying, and perhaps digging by rabbits or similar. A large pit, perhaps a quarry pit or large practice trench, is still partially visible as an earthwork on recent aerial photographs (S4).
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 22nd April 2016.
