Full Description
February 2016. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty National Mapping Programme.
The cropmarks of enclosures, boundary ditches and trackways of unknown date unknown date are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S4) to the south of Alderton. The cropmarks are likely to represent more than one phase, one of which may be medieval in date. As a surface assemblage of medieval pottery correlates with the location of the cropmarks (ADT 043, see also ADT 010). However some, or all, of the components may be later prehistoric to Roman in date. Some components of this site are likely to have originally been contemporary with parts of ADT 013 to the north.
A broad boundary ditch running diagonally across the site to the north of Stangrove Hall survives as an earthwork on the lidar 2m resolution DTM data (S4).
