Monument record ELV 127 - Undated pit, possibly a Second World War emplacement or weapons pit

Please read our .

Summary

An undated pit, possibly a Second World War emplacement or weapons pit, is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs. Traces of an earthwork are also visible on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey, suggesting that it may still survive. It was dug into a broad bank defining the northern edge of a post medieval plantation within Elveden Warren (SHER ELV 039). There is no obvious sign of other Second World War activity in the immediate vicinity, but there is across the wider area, and the pit lies close to a road (the B1106) that leads from Brandon to Elveden village and the Second World War bomb storage area at Warren Wood (SHER ELV 106).
