Full Description

The farmhouse is a Grade II listed building. Built in the early-mid 16th century with early 17th century stack and parlour addition. The 16th century section was heightened by about 1m in the 19th century. Timber framed and plastered with pantiled roof. 2 storeys and attic. 3-cell form. Scattered fenestration: 18th-19th century casements. 2 boarded doors. Internal stack with rebuilt plain shaft. 16th century section in 2 bays, comprising the service end and one bay of the hall. Earlier half of hall has re-set 16th century joists. Exposed first floor framing with reversed braces; blocked diamond-mullioned window in service chamber. Parlour has chamfered-joist ceiling; parlour chamber has intact studding with reversed braces. Roof over parlour cell has stepped diminished butt purlins and arched wind-bracing. Newel stairs, the upper flight original. Some early internal doors (S1).

2014: A Historic Building Record was carried out on the barn to inform a planning application for conversion. The barn is later than the farmhouse dating to the mid 17th century, likely built when the farmhouse was altered and extended. The principal barn is an oak framed three bay barn on a red brick plinth, with a hay loft over the eastern bay. The exterior is clad in weatherboarding with a small area of brick infill between the studwork below the hay loft floor. There is evidence that there may have been wattle and daub infill pancels but no remnats remain. The original roof has been replaced with salvaged oak and new sawn softwood timber rafters and a pantile finish. The roof was likely to have been thatched. The western lean-to, timber framed with a pantile roof, and the southern brick and raftered extensiosn are 19th century aditions. The western bay of the barn forms the threshing area with full height doors that are 20th century replacements. The lack of a major entrance suggests that the barn was originally larger (S2).
