Full Description

Trial trench evaluation revealed a small pit containing large amounts of charcoal was revealed in Trench 43.. Radiocarbon dating indicates the charcoal and feature to the late Saxon period. It could be related to industrial activities associated with the Saxon settlement at Ipswich. A small number of probable Roman field boundaries, aswell as a small number of undated pits were also revealed within this area of the cable route.
