Full Description
2015: Geophysical survey revealed two intersecting trackways across the common of Skilman’s Hill. One of the trackways heads downslope in a north-westerly direction, connecting with the passage that runs from Constitution Hill onto Skilman’s Hill. This was perhaps to provide access to the lower marshland grazing on the common. The second trackway appears to follow the contour of the hill, heading in a south-westerly direction. While neither of these trackways appear on historic mapping, an aerial photograph of Skilman’s Hill from 1920 appears to show the presence of two trackways across the green that may correspond to the geophysical interpretation (S1).
