Full Description

2019: During October 2017 an archaeological excavation was conducted at Site 12, Witnesham as part of the East Anglia ONE Offshore Windfarm project. A small group of three Late Neolithic Pits and two Bronze Age pits were identified. Within one of the Bronze Age pits a cremation burial was identified containing fragments of calcified human bone. These were located on the highest point of the site. The features contained flint artefacts and Late Neolithic and Beaker/Bronze Age pottery . The remaining features of ditches and gullies relate to the Post Medieval period with several representing post medieval field boundary ditches recorded on 19th and 20th century Ordnance Survey Maps. A group of eleven undated gullies were identified and are of probable Post-medieval origin to function as drainage ditches.(S1)
