Full Description
2020: A level 2 historic building recording was undertaken in advance of the conversion of five historic farm buildings comprising of a large threshing barn and four single storey animal shelters and storage buildings, all dating to the 18th and 19th century (with some 20th century extensions). The buildings are considered curtilage listed to Peartree House which is grade II listed.
The threshing barn is 18th century with later alterations and extensions, 5 bays, red brick in English bond with a black pantile roof. There are later catslide extnesions to the east and west side. The building appears to have been limewashed in the past, externally and internally. Internally a ceiling has been inserted in the 20th century, so the structure is no longer open to the roof structure. Common rafter roof, colars are pegged and mortised, possibly early 18th century. Modern concrete floor. No historic fictures, fittings or features survive.
The animal shelter/cartshed is 19th century, timber frame on a brick plinth. Mix of red and brick pantiled roof. This building has five open bays and the enclosed section has a large cart opening and some elongated windows. There is a continuous timber hay rack along the eastern wall in the easter section of the building; the western section has a hay rack along the timber partition.
The cowshed is 19th century, timber-framed on a brick plinth, hipped black pantile roof. Some internal timber stall dividers survive.
The store has 18th and 19th century elements with reused earlier red (and some black headers) brick wall to the east. Hipped red pantile roof behind earlier wall forming a parapey and also providing brick corbels supporting the wall plate on the east side. Some timbers appear 18th century, but the roof has mainly been rebuilt in the 20th century. Building Is open-ended to the north and south with a modern brick partition in the centre.
The animal shelter/store is red brick with boarded sections to the east gable an central sections, some stable doors in the south and west walls. Possibly a dairy originally in the eastern section, a small slatted window still survives. Through-purlin hipped red pantile roof. Corrugated iron partition and ceiling in the eastern section; this has a modern concrete floor, walls are half blackened, half limewashed. It has some 18th century remains of timber stall paritions; no other historic fixtures or fittings survive (S1)
