Full Description

This sunken featured building lay 10m back from, and with its long axis at right angles to the Foundation Street frontage. It was 6.2m long by 4.2m and 1.1m deep with a clay floor (1530), 20cm above the base of the pit. No evidence of any external entrance was found but both the east and west ends of the building had been removed by later pits. There was abundant evidence that the building had been systematically dismantled during the 11th century, (S1).
