Full Description

The Late Saxon period (Period 1.2) was represented by two surface lain, post and slot buildings (0212 & 0238), both with clay floors. Building 0212 measured c.5.5 metres from east to west and extended across the full width of the trench. Building 0238 also extended across the full width of the trench and measured in excess of3.5 metres from east to west, truncation by later features preventing a more accurate measurement. A layer of fill (0016) over the clay floor of building 0238 suggested that the structure had gone into disuse by the end of the 10th century. A similar layer (0211) over the clay floor in building 0212 appeared to be slightly later in date, (S1).
