Full Description

The oven pit was rectangular and 1.4m x1.2m with rounded corners with fired clay walls (0015) and floor (0061) with a flue arch (0062) at the south end. The fill, from bottom to top, was:

Layer of whole pots (0022), comprising 17 whole and 2 three quarter complete pottery vessels, mainly wasters, from kiln floor
Lower layer of kiln debris (0020)
Pottery rich loam deposit (0014, 0016, 0019)
Top layer of kiln debris (0010, 0017)
The layer of wasters recovered from the floor of the kiln suggests that they may have been used as supports in place of permanent or moveable kiln furniture.
