Full Description
The features attributed to this phase are largely burials, comprising inhumation burials and their associated grave _fillings. Amongst these burials were some disarticulated human bones, and an upturned skull (0018), all of which must have derived from the excavation of later graves through earlier burials. This certainly infers that the cemetery was not of a particularly shortduration, as there would appear to be a sufficiently long time scale involved for the diggers of later graves to excavate later graves in similar locations as earlier burials.
Also assigned to this phase are layers of loam (7, 17) which overlay the bulk of the burials. These layers contained disarticulated bone, which may represent a general levelling up of the graves as their fills settled.:(S1)
