Full Description

2017: Evaluation uncovered twenty-eight features which originated from the post-medieval or modern periods, or else were undated: one pit/posthole, three linear features, one silt patch, three ditches, three pits, one probable kiln/pit, two linear features, pits, three land drains and three natural features as well as one possible feature/silt patch and one possible linear feature. Two of these features appear to represent the remains of the southern boundary ditch of a field named 'Megs Well' which is detailed in the 1837 tithe map of East Bergholt. An interesting clustering of features to the southeast of the site include the remains of the probable kiln, indicating that brick manufacture most likely took place (S1) (S2).
