Medieval, 16th and 17th century pottery found in Buttermarket area in 1903.

16th c. Chafing dish in light grey ware, green glaze inside, yellowish glaze patch on outside rim
Medieval vessel of brick red ware partly glazed brown 17th C.
C 17th vase of brick red ware, smooth texture, brown glaze.
Jug, base broken off, light greyware, smooth texture, brown glaze.
C 17th jug of brick red ware, smooth brickish brown glaze inside. Traces of same outside
Siegburg - 16th c. Stoneware jug (upper part), light grey ware, smotth, grey glaze with traces of brown.
Medieval Bellarmine bottle, good condition, grey ware, smooth texture, brown glaze.
Medieval jug, damaged, brownish-red ware, brick like texture, partly glazed brown.
16th c Stoneware tygs
16th c Medieval costrel, good condition, grey ware, fairly smooth texture, dark brown glaze.

Inscribed roof-tile from Alderton's, Buttermarket, Ipswich, removed during alterations. Inscription "Mr Salmon 1429" - probably a tile maker's "score" 16th C or later
Cologne stoneware vessel (part of). Light grey ware, smooth texture, glazed brown. Decoration in relief.
17th C glass domed bases and diagonal fluting.
Fragments of glass. ?16th/17th century

Pottery bottle or flask in redware, patch of glaze on one side
16th C frilled-base tyg. 16th/17th C two-handled skillet. 18th C winebottle. Fragments of two human skulls. Found during alterations to Messrs Corders, Buttermarket.
Bowl with thumbed flanged foot, Dutch type, before 1550 (4 fragments) Also human skull (?date) - discarded. From site of Messrs Corder's Ltd (Inc. Gardiners)
Frilly-based tyg and 18th C wine-bottle. Dutch redware rim & handle, late Med. C13. Siegburg bowl - White unglazed. Late C14 dish - Utrecht kiln - yellow slip. Redware rim, local, E. Anglian
Silver maidenhead spoon c. 1600 Length overall: 6 3/16", length of bowl: 2 3/8" max, width of bowl: 1 3/4". Stamped with five-petalled floret, and engraved with initials IA. Excavated on the site of Messrs Frederic Corder, Buttermarket, Ipswich, 1938, when they were erecting a new building. Found 8ft down.
