Full Description

April 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Possible post medieval water meadows are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (such as S1-S3) and imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S4). Some of the 'blocks' of parallel ridges have also been noted by Professor Tom Williamson of University of East Anglia (personal communication). Although similar to water meadows in appearance, Professor Williamson thought that at least some of the channels were either too widely or too narrowly spaced to be entirely convincing as water meadows. At least some of the blocks visible on the 1940s aerial photographs appear to have been levelled, but most are visible on the lidar, suggesting they still survive as earthworks.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 21st April 2017.
