Full Description
Evaluation identified a late 17th-18th century wall footing, several ditches containing 18th-19th century pottery and a possible pond containing modern pottery. The pond corelates with items depicted on the 1st edition OS map of 1884. no buildings are recorded in the area of the map therefore the wall footings may represent a garden feature or be associated with outbuildings situated to the rear of the then northern-most buildings on the west side of the High Street. Three pieces of struck flint were recovered from the topsoil and subsoil including a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age discoidal flake core, potentially indicative of prehistoric activity A medieval pottery sherd was also found within the subsoil (S1).
