Full Description
February 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The site of a former Second World War site and pillbox are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2) to the east of the Gasworks at Brandon. A type 22 pillbox is visible to the south of the site and possible military huts and structures may be located to the north. This site may have provided some accommodation and operation buildings for the battery to the north (BRD 302). Although it cannot be ruled out that some of the structures visible in 1945 – shown by ‘extent of area’ – are agricultural in nature.
It is possible that the former pillbox (BRD 222) recorded to the west by the Defence of Britain project (Defence of Britain: PILLBOX: S0006256) may actually relate to this structure visible on the aerial photographs at this location.
