Monument record BRD 313 - Possible braided trackways of unknown date

Please read our .

Summary

An area of possible braided trackways of unknown date is visible as slight, poorly defined earthworks on aerial photographs and on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015. A natural, non-archaeological origin for the features is also possible, as is their interpretation as resulting from 19th or 20th century forestry activity.

Full Description

August 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
An area of possible braided trackways of unknown date is visible as slight, poorly defined earthworks on aerial photographs (such as S1) and on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S2). They lie at the head of a dry valley (leading to the Little Ouse to the northwest), and a natural, non-archaeological origin for the features is also plausible, as is their interpretation as resulting from 19th or 20th century forestry activity.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 24th August 2017.
