Monument record ELV 119 - Medieval to post medieval warren enclosures and cultivation ridges

Please read our .

Summary

The earthworks of a series of boundary banks, enclosures and areas of cultivation and/or plantation ridges are visible on the aerial photographs and the 0.5m resolution Lidar data within the western part of the Elveden Warren (ELV 039). The boundary banks define an area of enclosures set against the western edge of the warren. It seems likely that these enclosures were either used to grow and protect fodder crops or as stock enclosures. The presence of ridges within the northern enclosure area would also suggest they have certainly been used as areas of cultivation at least once. Whether these enclosures were contemporary with the warren or represent later infill and enclosure of the warren is uncertain.
