Full Description
January 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The soilmarks and cropmarks of a possible area of enclosures and/or fields and boundaries ditches of possible Roman or medieval to post medieval date were tentatively identified on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site is located to the west of an area of Roman boundary systems, trackways and fields excavated in advance of the A11 Fiveways to Thetford Improvement Scheme (S4); Area 10/ELV 085). The soilmarks are relatively faint and indistinct – and could feasibly relate to either recent agricultural activity – however they do share alignment with the adjacent excavated Roman boundary system and could represent further parts of this planned Roman landscape. However it must also be borne in mind that they may relate to medieval to post medieval divisions within the fields.
The site has been extended to the west to include further possible faint elements that were omitted from the mapping.
