Full Description
January 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
The earthworks of a probable First World War bunker or similar fieldwork are visible at this location on the aerial photographs (S1-S2). The earthworks are also dug into boundary banks of probable post medieval date (BNH 053). The features is likely to be associated with the First World War camp, Barnham Camp (BNH 054) record for details. It is possible that this early twentieth century earthwork has been misinterpreted as a barrow, see BNH 051 in same location. The site has a rounded mound profile to the north, so if viewed through plantation from the road to the north, it may have had the appearance of a barrow mound. Although it is feasible that the barrow and this First World War fieldwork do not represent the same earthworks. No sign of a barrow mound has been recognised on the aerial photographs.
