Monument record BRD 319 - Extensive area of trackways and possible flint mining, all of probable post medieval to modern date

Please read our .

Summary

An extensive area of trackways, ridges, disturbed ground and possible flint mining debris and pits, all of probable post medieval to modern date, is visible as earthworks and vegetation marks on aerial photographs and lidar. It lies between the core area of flint mines on Brandon Heath (BRD 066) to its east, and another area of post medieval flint mining (BRD 136) to its west. The features visible on the sources are poorly defined and difficult to interpret, but it is feasible that the area includes former flint mines, debris related to mining, and/or trackways contemporary with activity at the mining sites to its east and west.

The ridges could relate to former plantations, heathland management or former cultivation. Some of the trackways are braided and have been mapped by extent. Many of the features appear to still survive as earthworks.
