Full Description
January 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Two areas of uneven ground, visible as earthworks on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey (S1), could be the levelled remains of post medieval flint mines. Other such sites have been recorded in the vicinity (SHER STN 039, SHER STN 030). However, the unevenness could equally reflect local geological and topographical conditions, or modern ground disturbance by forestry. There are boundaries of known and probable post medieval date which cross the site (SHER STN 181). The relationship between these and the postulated flint mines is not known; one of the boundaries may define the western extent of the site. The areas of uneven ground have been mapped by extent.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 25th January 2018.
