Full Description
Extant timber-framed buillding with timber-framed and brick cellar, as shown in black and white structural photographs (S1).
The entirety of the 15th century timber-framed building has been subsequently restored: The interior (1st storey) has a fine plaster ceiling decorated with fleur-de-lis and Tudor roses; Roofs tiled; On the west side of the crosswing in St Nicholas Street there is a plaque with information regarding the birthplace of Wolsey's parents (S2).
In the cellar of No 47 St Nicholas Street (TM 16254429) are the visible remains of a chapel. The walls are constructed of Tudor brick and several niches are to be seen. The roof is vaulted. A bricked up doorway, not of recent date exists in the southwest wall. (For details of No 47 St Nicholas Street see TM 14 SE 37). (S3)
