Full Description
15th century timber-framed building (built 1471 - towards the end of the 'Wars of the Roses') known as Pykenham's Gatehouse/Gateway, restored in 1980s after condition began to deteriorate (distortion of timber, leaking roof and cracking brickwork) (S1). Repairs enforced included: rebuilding damaged brickwork; strengthened, re-placed and realigned timber-framing; removing and restoring the roof, rafters and tiles; renewed floorboards; water-proofing and repairing of wall surfaces; and modern additions (e.g. smoke detectors) (S1).
Excavations of the site revealed several organic materials/artefacts (e.g. 17th century shoe and 15th century textiles) (S1).
