Full Description

Trial trench evaluation revealed the foundation of a chimney stack associated with a now lost extension as marked on an 1823 plan of the hall. No floor surfaces were identified with the mortar and brick work block observed cutting clay layers interpreted as spoil from the digging of a moat. Two sherds of 12th-13th century pottery recovered from these deposits suggests the moats predate the 16th century hall (S1).
