Full Description

Field ditches, possible enclosure, ring ditch circa 28m diameter, S of Kembroke Hall. E of BUC 008 (S1).
An extensive ditched co-axial field system of probable later prehistoric or Roman date, can be seen as cropmarks centred approximately on TM267409, to the south of Kembroke Hall, Bucklesham parish. The main axis of the fields is roughly NNE-SSW with most field boundaries and a track visible at 90 degrees to this axis. The main trackway visible appears to be heading downslope to Kirton Creek, possibly to a fording point or bridge (approximately where the modern bridge is) and may meet up with a track visible to the east in KIR 002. A number of ring ditches are also visible and have been recorded as BUC ????, and a rectangular enclosure, possibly containing a number of pits, can also be seen at TM26534114. A second phase of land division on a different orientation can also be seen centred on circa TM266410. Some of these field boundaries are marked on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of circa 1884, and have been transcribed only to differentiate the from the surrounding earlier features. (S3-S8)
