Monument record NAC 009 - Seven Hills Round Barrows; Knight's Wood

Round Barrow - Part of Seven Hills group (see also BUC 006, 007, FXL 011, NAC 004-008, 010-013).
1764: Barrows opened. "Ashes were found in some. One disclosed pieces of apparently human bone" (R2)(S3).
Numerous (more than 7) round tumuli, some of considerable size. The 1836 1 inch OS map marks 11 of them (S3).
Small barrow, much spread, undated note by E R H Hancox (S1).
1962: J (OS reference) - Barrow located in dense, tall bracken and no rise in ground noted (S1).
1976: Tree and bracken covered. Very low mound height, circa 0.40m, diameter circa 11m (S2).
1981: Not visible under bracken (S3).
1986: Visible as very slight rise under bracken and trees. Dimensions as above (S3).
1993: Smallest barrow of group of six (SAM 21281), `0.4m in height and is recorded as having covered an area circa 11m in diameter, although the part which remains upstanding now has a maximum diameter of 5m'. Scheduled area (of group) enlarged November 1993 (S3).
