Monument record NAC 012 - Seven Hills Round Barrows; Knight's Wood

Round Barrow - Part of Seven Hills group (see also BUC 006, 007, FXL 011, NAC 004-011, 013).
1764: Barrows opened. "Ashes were found in some. One disclosed pieces of apparently human bone" (R2)(S3).
Numerous (more than 7) round tumuli, some of considerable size. The 1836 OS 1 inch map marks 11 of them (S3).
Barrow of medium size, undated note by E R H Hancox (position given as TM 2236 4118) (S1).
1962: In good condition. 22.5m in diameter, 0.9m high. Trees growing on mound, with light covering of bracken (S1).
1976: Tree and bracken covered. Height circa 0.47m, diameter circa 27m (S2).
1981: Oak with pine and bracken encroaching (S3).
1986: Under mature deciduous trees with some conifers and much bracken. Some trees fallen, but without damaged because they have broken off above ground level. Dimensions as above (S3).
1993: `Circa 27m in diameter and 0.5m in height'. Scheduled area (of group of 6) enlarged November 1993 (S3).
