Farmstead record WTH 061 - Farmstead: Lawn Farm (Blackstreet Farm)

Lawn Farm (Blackstreet Farm), Withersfield. 19th century farmstead and farmhouse with converted buildings. Loose courtyard three-sided plan formed by working agricultural buildings. The farmhouse is set away from the yard on the other side of the road. The farmbuildings are extant but all have been converted. The farmhouse was demolished sometime between the 1st edition Ordnacne Survey map and the 2nd edition (1884-1904). Located within an isolated position. The farm buildings appears to have undergone a change in layout since the 1840 tithe map with the loss of at least one range and possible replacement of other buildings (S1-6).

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.
