Full Description

Iron cruciform brooch, beads, bronze-gilt clasp, pair cruciform brooches, `Hoxne'. Also bronze bell.
Basil Brown records: "Case of ancient bronze & flint ornaments was sold to Dr Low and contained the following Anglo Saxon ornaments evidently from graves. (This was the auction of the effects of the late Miss K H Betts of Wortham Hall, at Wortham Market in 1906 - I was there. BB). 1. Pair of long brooches of bronze with horse head terminals. The 2 side knobs of the head were missing in each case. 2. One small bronze brooch with ring & dot decoration. 3. Half of a bronze gilt clasp with ring decoration. 4. 12 Sax beads of various shape and sizes. 5. A broken flat amber bead and part of a hollow silver bead. 6. Various parts of large iron brooch." This cruciform iron brooch described by Chas Low as 8 inches long, with silver plates and decorations of copper or bronze and part gilded. Dated by BM between 550-600 AD. The brooch was presented to the BM by Dr Low pre 1912 (S1)(S2)(S3).
