Full Description

Bull's Hall Farm is a farmstead visible on the 1st Ed OS map. The farmstead is laid out in a regular F-plan with the farmhouse detached and set away from the yard. The farmstead sits alongside a private track in an isolated location. This farmstead survives intact with modern additions on site.

Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.

2019: In 2019 a heritage report was prepared by Brooks Architects to support a prior notice application to convert redundant buildings at Bull's Hall, Friston to form three dwellings. It is typical of a small-scale model farmstead of the form arising during the early to mid-1800's with the progressive industrialisation and mechanisation of farming. The farm in its current arrangement appears on the 1882 and 1883 OS maps of the area and appears to have been little altered in plan from this time. The same structures appear to be present in 1904. The farmhouse is a double fronted brick house under a red clay tiled roof with white stained windows and twin stacks. The other buildings are predominantly brickwork with timber frame ingills under lcay tiled roofs with some panels of render, weatherboard, and vertical timber cladding. The structures have clearly undergone some significant maintenance over time. (S3)
