Full Description

The desk-based assessment for this site has confirmed that its southern part, which is proposed as amenity land, formed part of a brick works between the mid 19th century and c1914. The northern part of the site which forms the area of the proposed residential development contains no recorded heritage assets and is recorded as being pasture, as it is at present, in 1842. Unfortunately there is a
paucity of historic documentary sources for Lavenham and therefore the Record Office threw little light on the site with regard to the period before 1800.

From a search of the Suffolk Historic Environment Record for the area within 250m of the site it is concluded that the site has low to medium potential to contain archaeological deposits and finds of pre-historic date (but medium to high potential for very early pre-historic deposits albeit probably at some depth), low to medium potential for Roman period deposits, low potential for the Anglo-Saxon period and medium to high potential for deposits of medieval to earlier Post medieval date.
