Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.

Bears Barn is an L-shaped former threshing barn which appears to have been constructed in two phases: the principal range constructed first in the early 19th century with the western range built in the later 19th century. The origina; barn is double height and T-shape in plan, with a projection to the north-east of the structure, as shown on the 1848 Tithe Map. The frame itself is close studded and formed by both historic and modern fabric and appears to have been repaired and altered in piecemeal approach. Material from another structure has been used to repair the barn, with little of the original fabric remaining. This is also true of the later range. The main range consistes of a double height timber framed structure built on top of a six course common bond red brick plinth. The structure spans three bays (S5).
