Recorded as part of the Farmsteads in the Suffolk Countryside Project. This is a purely desk-based study and no site visits were undertaken. These records are not intended to be a definitive assessment of these buildings. Dating reflects their presence at a point in time on historic maps and there is potential for earlier origins to buildings and farmsteads. This project highlights a potential need for a more in depth field study of farmstead to gather more specific age data.

Former hunting lodge, later used as a farm. Hundon Great Lodge Farmhouse is a grade II listed 17th century timber-framed and plastered house. The farmyard is located to the north of the farmhouse. Much of the farmyard group of buildings have been built after 1948, but the northern and eastern secctions are earlier and the farm cottages have a date of 1885 on a plaque. The principal buildings is a red brick barn, with a diamond shaped arrangement of ventilation holes, on the north-west side of the farmyards and attached to a timber framed building which formed a link to a further timber framed section which turned the north-east corner. The brock barn dates from the 18th century. The timber framed building is later and attaches to the former north-east gable of the brick barn with its ventilation holes. Its framing is of sawn timber and the building probably dates from the late nineteenth century. The timber framed link continues north-eastwards and is attached to a section running north-west to south-east, forming the corner of the yard. This barn has a midstrey facing north-east and pre-dates the linking section, but is still of sawn timber with a queen strut roof. The building formerly continued southwards from the midstrey, probably extending the timber framed barn by three bays. This has since been demolished as has a building which ran east – west and formed the southern side of the yard, parallel to the brick barn to the north. Similarly a row of open sheds continued southwards, but only the outer red brick walls remain. (S5)
