Full Description
2020: An archaeological evaluation comprising 9 trenches revealed one shallow undated ditch which contained no finds. A shallow depression infilled with subsoil was also encountered and also did not produce any finds. Across the site as a whole, a low level scatter of 20 small and abraded medieval coarseware pottery sherds and a few late medieval but largely post medieval non-ferrous metal finds were recovered as stray finds with the majority being of 19th-20th century date or of indeterminate date. The metal finds included a fragmentary silver halfpenny of Henry VII and copper alloy finds including buckle fragments and belt plates, as well as some small lead weights. These stray finds can be interpreted as the result of spreading manure containg domestic waste across arable land over the last few centuries and loss by people during farm work. (S1)
