Full Description

Four trenches contained similarly aligned furrows of medieval/post-medieval date.
A further 59 trenches were excavated of which 26 contained archaeological features. The evaluation has confirmed the results of the previous geophysical survey which recorded enclosure complexes in two locations, but in addition it identified similar activity in another location that had not been part of the geophysical survey. Two of the settlements were c.500m apart whilst the third was c.2km away. All three areas comprised small enclosure complexes which were established in the late Iron Age/early Roman period and consequently maintained in use until the mid-Roman period. Each produced similar artefactual assemblages, but there was also the presence of possible industrial activity in the most north-western area. Collectively the late prehistoric and Roman pottery comprised 620 sherds (6.7kg).
Included in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology and History annual round up of individual finds and discoveries for 2022 (S1)
