Full Description
Evlauation identified four archaeological features comprising two pits, a ditch and a likely modern land drain. Three sherds of early or mid-13th to 14th century pottery were recovered from the surface of the ditch. The ditch extended on the same north-north-west to south-south-east orientation as a contemporaneous ditch that was encountered on the adjacent plot to the west during a recent evaluation, which appeared to form part of a possible co-axial system. The fills of the two pits encountered during the evaluation, though devoid of datable finds, were found to contain charcoal derived from oak that likely represent fuel debris; however, there were no associated remains to further an interpretation of any specific processes with which they may have been associated (S1).
