Full Description

`Lowestoffe, 11th Oct. Last night during a heavy gale from S and by E, the LORD DUNCAN, Smith, of Shields, coal laden, was driven on shore here, after being on the Newcombe Sand and is gone to pieces. The crew saved by Captain Manby's apparatus. Two other vessels were seen upon the Newcombe Sand and it is feared went to pieces as parts of the wreck and some papers have drifted on shore.' (2)

`Yarmouth, October 18: During the tremendous gale on Wednesday se'nnight, the LORD DUNCAN brig was wrecked on Lowestoft South Beach, and from her dangerous situation, the almost certain destruction of her crew, 7 in number, appeared inevitable. Manby's mortar and apparatus were fortunately near at hand...' (3)
