Full Description

A fluxgate gradiometer survey was successfully completed across the survey area with the exception of one c.2.2ha land parcel where access was denied. The survey has successfully detected a range of anomalies of archaeological, agricultural, modern, natural and undetermined origin. Probable archaeological activity has been identified in the form of historical field systems and number of possible settlement areas that consist of partial rectilinear enclosures. Agricultural activity has been identified across the survey area in the form of former mapped field boundaries as well modern ploughing trends and field drains. Anomalies of an undetermined origin were also detected across the survey area which may relate to modern or agricultural features or World War Two trenches and coastal defences; however, an earlier archaeological origin cannot be ruled out. The impact of magnetic disturbance on the results is limited to ferrous spreads, metal and electric fencing along the extant field boundaries, overhead cables, and a buried service. Natural variations have been detected across the survey area, relating to changes in the underlying superficial deposits (S1).
