Maritime record COR 096 - Wreck of a Scottish Schooner

'Early that morning, this schooner was driven ashore by a south-west gale onto Corton Beach. Coastguards were unable to reach her with their rocket apparatus, so the lifeboat was called out. When they arrived at the wreck they found the vessel sunk and the crew in the rigging. They succeeded in getting them all off, but as the foresail had split, they beached the lifeboat at Corton and walked back to town. (Some reports say they beached near the Warren House.)' (2)

LORD DOUGLAS, Robinson, brig, 223 tons, of and from Hartlepool to London, sank in 5 fathoms near the Whiting Sand with her cargo of coal. Crew saved. (3)
