Full Description

Evaluation identified archaeology consisting of boundary or drainage ditch alignments running alongside Broad Road. One Early Iron Age pit was revealed alongside ditches dated to the Roman period, medieval ditches, medieval pits and a postmedieval trackway. The Roman finds suggest a highly Romanised populus, either relating to a high status or, possibly, a military site within close proximity and the recovery of a near intact pottery tettina or ’feeding bottle’ from a ditch is especially rare within the area.
