1805 wreck of English cargo vessel which stranded on the Knoll Sand after springing a leak on her passage with coal; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty

`The PROVIDENCE, of Sunderland, Barnes, laden with coals, was lost off Orfordness; crew saved.' (1)

`On Tuesday se'nnight, the PROVIDENCE, of Sunderland, Thomas Barnes, master, coal loaded, struck on the Knowl, off Orfordness. (She had sprung a leak the night before, and the master and crew were endeavouring to run her on the main.) The crew are all saved, with a small part of the materials, but the ship and cargo are totally lost.' (2)
