Maritime record SWD 142 - Wreck of the Daisy

1899 wreck of an English ketch which foundered 5 miles ENE of Southwold following a collision with the steamer BRITANNIA. She was a wooden sailing vessel, en route from Sunderland to Ipswich with a cargo of coal.

Vessel foundered following collision with the SS BRITANNIA, of Sunderland, in wind conditions SExS force 2. (1)

'KETCH SUNK OFF SOUTHWOLD - The steamer BRITANNIA has landed at Hull the crew of the ketch DAISY, which had been sunk off Southwold while on a voyage to Ipswich with coal. The BRITANNIA was at the time bound to Goole, from London, in ballast.' (2)

'ISPWICH BOUND VESSEL SUNK - The name of the vessel which has been reported sunk off Southwold transpires to be the DAISY, a ketch laden with coal for Ipswich. The crew, it appears, were taken off by the steamer BRITANNIA, and landed at Hull.' (3)
