Full Description
1798 wreck of English cargo vessel which stranded near Southwold, while carrying a cargo of coal; a wooden sailing vessel.
Status: Casualty
`Newcastle, Nov. 17...The PHILLIP AND ANN, of Shields, coal loaden, was driven on shore near Southwold on the 7th inst. and all hands, 12 in number, unfortunately perished.' (1)
`Newcastle, Saturday, November 17...In the late gale, the PHILIP AND ANN was lost, and all hands...' (2)
`To be sold by auction (for the benefit of the underwriters) at the Low-Light Quay, North Shields, on Tuesday the 15th of January, 1799: the wrecked materials of the late ship PHILIP AND ANN; consisting of four anchors, from 13 to 14 cwt, cables, sails, and sundry lots of cut cable, running rope, etc. The sale to begin at 11 o'clock in the forenoon.'
