REMAINS OF SWEDISH MERCHANT STEAMSHIP, 1927

Method of Fix: 20
Carrying 2000 loads of sawn timber. Sank at anchor, following fire
which started in bunkers and spread to cargo, 1927.
28-DEC-1927 Position 068 degrees, 1.74 miles from Corton Church.
10-JAN-1928 Wreck sunk in sand. No longer visible.
09-NOV-1931 Position now 52 31 55.5N 001 47 12E.
02-DEC-1931 Position now 52 31 55.5N 001 47 18E.
05-JUL-1979 Located and examined in 52 31 54N 001 47 19E. This
possibly incorrect as it plots some 5 cables SW of fixed position.
Least echosounder depth 7.2 in general depth 11.2m. No scour. Side
scan sonar height 3.74m. Good sonar contact. Solid compact wreck.
19-MAY-1980 Located in 52 31 53.7N 001 47 20.6E. Not examined.
05-JUL-1982 Examined in 52 31 55N 001 47 16E. Swept clear at 6.6,
foul at 6.8m. Least echosounder depth 7.2 in general depth 11.5m. No
scour. Lying approx NW/SE, dispersed over large area. Sweep also
fouled over 100m SE, but nothing located by echosounder or sonar.
08-SEP-1983 Not examined. Position confirmed using echosounder and
sonar.
15-OCT-1984 Wreck now swept clear at 5.8m.
10-OCT-1984 Examined in 52 31 55N 001 47 19E. Swept clear at 5.8,
foul at 6m. Least echosounder depth 5.3 in general depth 11m, thought
to be due to sand plume in strong tidal stream, or weed. No scour.
30-APR-1985 Located in 52 31 52N 001 47 20E but not fully surveyed.
Least echosounder depth 8.9 in general depth 11-12m.
17-JUN-1986 Located during area search.
08-APR-1987 Examined in 52 31 55N 001 47 19E. Least echosounder
depth 7.5 in general depth 10-12m. Scour 1m. Lying 150/330 degrees,
in one piece. Length 80m, beam 20m. Magnetic anomaly of >110nt 45m
from SE end and on top NW end of wreck indicating minimum metallo
ferrous content of about 150 tonnes.
30-APR-1988 Examined in 52 31 54N 001 47 19E. Swept clear at 7 foul
at 7.2m. Least echosounder depth 7.5m in general depth 11.5m. Scour
depth 12.5m. Height 4m. Length about 85m, width up to 30m. Intact,
lying 160/340 degrees. Mag anomaly shows ferrous content of between
160 and 200 tons.
18-JUL-1989 Located but not examined.
07-MAY-1990 Examined in 52 31 54N 001 47 20E. Least echosounder
depth 6.8 in general depth 11m. Scour 12.5m deep. Lies, relatively
intact, 160/340 degrees. Length 75m, beam 15m. Large mag anomaly
observed. Main part of wreck has least depth 7.3m, but a projection,
possibly nets, gave shoal depth.
14-JUN-1991 Located during routine search in 52 31 43N 001 47 19E,
apparently broken up. No sonar shadow or scour. Not examined. General
depth now 12m.
29-APR-1992 Examined in 52 31 54N 001 47 19E. Swept - clear at 7.2,
foul at 7.5m. Least echosounder depth 7.6 in general depth 13m. No
scour. Height 5m. Lies 140/320 degrees with 2 shoal points - the
shoaler at SE end of wreck.
