`Drove athwart the hawse of the brig SYDNEY, of Lynn, and sank. The ROYAL OAK, after clearing the brig, was hauled alongside by a line, and the crew hauled on board. A tar barrel was burnt for assistance, but none was received, and nothing was saved from the sloop. No lights had been shown by either vessel. Estimated loss on the vessel was 600 [sterling], but was only insured for 300 [sterling]; loss on the cargo, which was uninsured, was 30 [sterling].' (1)
