Full Description
2019: A Historic England Level 2 historic building record was undertaken of 42 Waveney Drive, Lowestoft in advance of demolition as part of the Lake Lothing Third Crossing scheme.
The building comprises an early 20th-century detached residence, believed to be associated with the former Raglan Works. The building is not designated, nor included on any local lists, but is considered to have some architectural and historic interest. The building form has remained largely unaltered, though it has been modernised with the replacement of windows and household fittings and a modern single-storey extension. The building, formerly known as ‘Laurie House’, is significant for its associations with the Raglan Works, established in 1916 by the Maconochie Brothers Ltd and later acquired by the Co-operative Wholesale Society, and as the first dwelling house to be established within the West Lowestoft Estate.
42 Waveney Drive comprises a c.1916 detached residence situated within a moderatesized garden on a triangle of land between Waveney Drive and Durban Road. The dwelling is a compact ‘L’-plan two-storey building, fronting northwest onto Waveney Drive. To the southwest of the building is a modern single-storey flat-roofed extension (S1).
