Full Description

Excavation and watching brief identified Romano-British and Post Medieval Features. The Early Romano-British features were represented by a pit and a ditch. The small pit was sub circular in shape 1m in diameter and 0.23m deep. Pottery of Late Iron Age to Early Roman date was recovered from the fills. Residual Prehistoric pottery of Early Neolithic and Early Bronze age was also recovered form the pit. The ditch was broad and shallow on a north west to south-east alignment from which a moderate assemblage of Late Iron Age or Early Romano-British was recovered along with two sherds of Saxon pottery.

The remaining features comprised tow ditches presumed to be of Post-medieval or Modern ditch. The first ditch was a filled in field boundary depicted on recent Ordnance survey mapping , with the second ditch was also recoded within the watching brief area with a second parallel ditch, approximately 5m to the east. This represented a small flanking ditch to a trackway depositing on the 1899 Ordnances Surveys Map, but not an and subsequent editions. A further large modern feature was identified as a former pond (S1)
