Full Description
1991: Structural analysis of 17, Stowupland Street during its demolition revealed that behind a pebble dashed render and concrete roof tiles stood the incomplete remains of a late 14th century timber framed building. It had been erected as a probable artisan's hall-house and workshop. Before the early 17th Century it was converted into a tavern, known as The White Lion Inn, and the open hall received an inserted upper floor. The inn remained active until the end of the 19th Century, when the property was subdivided and the southern fragment, with its mid 19th Century rear wing, changed to it's final domestic use (S1).
